So, rock ‘n’ rollers,
do you hear it?
…the sound of us making some ch-ch-changes, yet again.
And while I’m so happy about all of the new and exciting opportunities being afforded to us,
they also make me nervous.
(The audible “it” I mentioned above could also be a reference to the sound of my jaw clenching at night. My dentist just told me that I’m gritting my teeth as I sleep, a sign of stress. I know this is a lot of information to be sharing, but I figure, I’ve shown you the inside of my bathroom cabinet, so there’s kind of no turning back from there.)
So, I think I am writing this to remind myself of the changes I’ve faced (nervously!) in the past. They have all turned out OK. I suck at change, but, as a date once told me, “If it’s not new, it’s through”, so I’m going to turn, face this “strange”, and try to embrace is as much as I can.
And thank you for being here for me along the way.
And by you, I mean David Bowie.
Obviously.
oh and p.s. No, I’m NOT pregnant. Don’t get it twisted.

Yesterday’s #febphotoaday was my favorite yet, and thank you to everyone who got in on the fun.
It has been voyeurism at it’s finest and I’ve so enjoyed seeing what is inside your bathroom cabinet.

23. Your Shoes
So, I was all prepared to use this photo:

Because a) these were actually the shoes I wore this morning as we took a sunny stroll around the neighborhood and
b) I was actually outside, walking.
I know.
My sneakersliterallyhad dust on them.
But, then, my daughter walked into my closet and said, “Ooooh, mommy shoes. Pretty.”
She’s got killer timing, no?
So, I felt obligated to show you what she thought I should post.

And those sparkly jellies in the top spot? They were my other new somethings, the ones I wore after I became a Mrs, and needed to get down in some more practical boogie shoes. And for me, bedazzled=practical.
So, I kind of cheated today, didn’t I?
So what. Sue me.
(Just don’t take my shoes.)

16. Something New

On May 31, 2008,
as the saxophone played,
I held onto my dad’s arm
and walked, down a peony-lined runner, towards my forever.
I had something old,
a headpiece made of champagne and ivory seed pearls,
worn by my Nanny on her wedding day;
I had something borrowed,
the tiny, gold wedding band, that had been on my Mommom‘s own finger when she and my Poppop said their vows;
I had something blue,
a bracelet in honor of my Superhero;
and then I had Fancy shoes. Fancy new shoes.
And while they’ve now been worn,
and have scuffed soles
and loose threads,
and so many dance steps trailing behind them as distant memories,
they will always be my
something new.
