A 23 Week Old Story

Today, the baby decided to dump an entire bowl of oatmeal
all over herself,
her clothing,
and my side of the bed.
Is it wrong that this little act of rebellion makes me proud?
I’m so excited that she’s gotten old enough to do something so unquestionably naughty.
I can’t believe how far we’ve come in just 23 weeks.
Because it’s Sunday,
and because it’s dreary,
and because I have sheets, pillowcases,
pjs
and a peachy-pink baby to hose down,
I leave you with the following:
Our Baby Story.
If it’s your first time reading, brace yourself.
It’s a bit of a doozy.
If you’ve trekked your way through this fairy tale before,
I implore you to,
break out your sword once more and fight your way through the bramble and briar,
because, remember,
this happy ending is precious and rare and sweet,
and might just take your mind off of those old Sunday afternoon blues.
