“Mom, look! Look at the sky!”

It was not even seven o’clock this morning, but my daughter’s excitement was palpable.

She grabbed my phone, ran to the window and snapped this shot.

I did not edit this picture at all; I did not filter it through a special lens on my phone nor did I touch it up in iPhoto.

I wanted to see the world through her eyes, just as it is.

It may not be centered,

but neither are we.

It may not be perfect,

but neither are we.

But it is beautiful.

Who better than our children to remind us to do what I promised in my inaugural post;

“I will celebrate the big, of course, but also cherish the mundane.”

1) That after hearing his painfully uncool wife ask, “what’s this whole ‘Dougie’ thing that I hear people talking about?”, he looked it up, learned the dance, and performed it as an after dinner surprise.
2) That for our daughter’s bedtime story, he recited the words of Paul Simon, and sang “Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes” as her lullaby.
3) When I walked through the door this evening, after having my hair cut for the first time since JUNE, he grabbed our daughter and said, “Look at your beautiful mommy. Look how beautiful she is. She takes my breath away. I have the prettiest girls in the world.”
Need I say more?
