Tonight, after a light dinner and cool walk, I watched my daughter as she saw the Intro to Rocky Horror for the first time…
as she studied the lips and whispered, “Wow!”
and then stuck a slice of cheese on her head, as a hat,
and then sang along (she learned the words to the chorus after her first listen)
and then asked for more.
And as I watched, I thought,
That’s my kid!
That’s my kid, alright!
And to that I say, Don’t Dream it, Be it,
baby. And don’t you ever forget it.

borrowed my daughter’s bedazzled hair barrette and wore it out in public,
ran inside, pushing the stroller, frantically, during a thunderstorm,
mooned people, when my pants fell down, when I ran inside, pushing the stroller, frantically, during a thunderstorm,
dried tears,
startled my daughter with my “Riff Raff” impersonation from Rocky Horror,
baked chocolate truffle brownies,
ate chocolate truffle brownies,
supervised a play-date between my daughter and my dogter,
taught my husband the difference between Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel,
choreographed a spontaneous family dance routine to “Hakuna Matata” (I was Timon),
fried squash blossoms
(or, actually, watched my dad as he fried squash blossoms. I did partake in the squash blossoms. I also squeezed the lemon juice onto the squash blossoms.),
had 2 sips of wine (I know, big TIME),
killed a mosquito with my bare hands,
read nursery rhymes
and
picked a nose that was not my own,
and not in that order.

…when you pull up to a stoplight,
with your hair piled high atop your head (or, as I like to call it, post-nursing-chic),
and your lips painted bright red, because when you reached into your purse, grabbed chapstick and slathered it on your lips, you didn’t realize that it was actually red lipstick that you were applying, a la the intro to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”,
as you belt out “Bohemian Rhapsody”, at full volume, with full vibrato,
and (albeit limited) choreography?

I do.
