So, today happens to be my day of birth.
And it’s three o’clock in the morning.
Why am I up? Why am I writing?
Because my husband is really cute.
I got up to use the bathroom and when I got back into bed, he said “Happy Birthday. Can I give you your presents?”
I asked him if this was a euphemism.
“I’m just so excited to give them to you,” he continued.
I told him okay.
He was precise in his delivery, telling me which card to open first, where to look, etc.
The cards were beautiful. In one, he wrote of a metaphor, binding us together.
And then he gave me two supa fancy bars of dark chocolate. I was already satisfied. If that had been my only gift, I would have been thrilled.
Then, he pulled out a big box.
“I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit for this,” he warned.
Inside were a pair of these.

And what was even better about the fabulous pair of shoes in front of me, was my husband’s smile; he was so excited to give me something so nice that he knew I would love. He was beaming. I was beaming. So much so that I had to take out the computer and write about it at 3 in the morning on what is now technically my birthday.
Over the past year my husband has been my rock; he has been absolutely incredible. He has sacrificed for me, soothed me, stood by me and I now love him so much more than I ever thought possible.
And the funniest part of the story was that yesterday, my husband, mom and I were taking the kids on a walk and she asked if there was anything I wanted from the farmer’s market. I asked for my favorite thing, a scone from the Ultimate Bake Shop. So she dropped one off.
Apparently, my husband had already had this idea. He had gone to the farmer’s market earlier that day and gotten me an assortment of scones. He loves me so much, he wanted me to have all of my favorite things on my birthday.
So now I have a lot of scones to eat. And beautiful cards. And truffled dark chocolate.
And fancy shoes, that he picked out all by himself.
I don’t know what this year will bring, but I know that I am so fortunate to have him.
And really, really nice shoes.

23. Your Shoes
So, I was all prepared to use this photo:

Because a) these were actually the shoes I wore this morning as we took a sunny stroll around the neighborhood and
b) I was actually outside, walking.
I know.
My sneakersliterallyhad dust on them.
But, then, my daughter walked into my closet and said, “Ooooh, mommy shoes. Pretty.”
She’s got killer timing, no?
So, I felt obligated to show you what she thought I should post.

And those sparkly jellies in the top spot? They were my other new somethings, the ones I wore after I became a Mrs, and needed to get down in some more practical boogie shoes. And for me, bedazzled=practical.
So, I kind of cheated today, didn’t I?
So what. Sue me.
(Just don’t take my shoes.)

12. Inside Your Closet
Here they are, folks: My outfits, in their natural habitat. I could have straightened up the shelves and made the hangers line up and folded the sweaters more evenly. But, you know, I’m keepin’ it real.

And in the interest of full disclosure, this is half my closet. My other half houses my vanity, a lingerie chest, shelves of t-shirts and another nook where I keep my sweats. And another rack of shoes. I may not have room for a guest room in my house, and I may not have room for a playroom, nor an office, nor a den. But my shoes? My shoes got room.

In the 18 months since I began writing this blog, I have written some weird things.
But, for some reason, I think that this might take the cake.
You see, lately, I have been so positively overwhelmed, as I have witnessed so many good deeds; acts of love and kindness, both in my real life and in my little online world. I have seen human beings being so selfless and kind to one another. It has been a pleasure to watch.
Oh, and have I ever mentioned that I am somewhat of a hoarder? I’m not a scary hoarder, just the kind of gal who, while trying to fold my sweaters, will come across a gray and maroon striped vest and then concoct reasons in my head as to why I need to hold onto it, as I conjure future events and outfits, during which this vest will become crucial? Oh, and, when all else fails, I play the daughter card. Who knows how the styles may change? What’s old always becomes new, again. How can I throw this away? Maybe she will see it in a picture 17 years from now and ask me where I can find her that FABULOUS gray striped sweater vest. How could I deny her that future sartorial bliss?! By the way, can you tell that just that situation totally happened to me about 18 years ago? I spotted a killer blue argyle sweater in an old photo of my mom and turned the house upside-down looking for that top, only to discover that she had given it away just months before, figuring she would never wear it again. So yeah, I save everything. For my daughter.
Which makes me a bit of a hoarder.
And, on top of everything else. It’s the holidays. The time for cheer, the time for spreading joy, for love and for giving.
So, you know, three birds, one stone….you catching my drift?
So, again, I ask, who wants some shoes?
In an effort to curb my “accumulative” ways, I recently went through my closets and purged a great deal of things that are no longer in my rotation. Donating heaping piles of clothing to the Salvation Army felt wonderful, handing shopping bags, filled with my favorite outfits past, to friends has been a treat, trading clothing with my mom and sister has been awesome.
But now, it’s time to tackle my shoes. You should know, I used to totally be a shoe person. In fact, I think that I received shoes as birthday gifts for like five birthdays in a row. By request. I loved me some shoes.
Yet now, in my current life state, I don’t have the same occasions to wear all of my cute, high heel wedges and rattan sandals and suede knee high boots. And I want to find them some new, loving homes.
So, again, WHO THE HAY WANTS SOME SHOES?
Here’s the deal. I wear a size 8 1/2. Sometimes an 8. Sometimes a 9. And I have piles of shoes that I’d love to give away. Some of these shoes have never been touched, others have been worn with lots o’ love. But I’d like to give them to you. Is that weird? I’m a big advocate of hand-me-downs, hand-me-ups, hand-me-overs…so, if you think this is weird, just skip this post and I promise, I will have an iphone photo of my daughter and dog, both eating breakfast in a tutu and fedora, tomorrow.
But, if you’re on board, stay with me. If you or someone you know is in the market for some new shoes, email me. It would be my absolute pleasure to help you to complete an outfit, to add to your collection, or to make you stand a little taller. Or a LOT taller in the case of one, particularly striking pair of black boots.
If you are interested in some nice, free, Becca-loved shoes, hit me up. You can comment below (with your size and what kind of shoes would make you extra happy) or send me an email or write on this site’s Facebook page and I will send you some pictures and you can choose what you like or just come knock on my door and go through my closet.
Or, actually, don’t knock on my door. If you do, I will get scared and think you are trying to kidnap me and I will probably smack you with a stiletto.
So, one more time for the cheap seats,
WHO WANTS SOME SHOES?
Happy Holidays from me, and may peace and espadrilles be with you.
