Beginning

This morning, I experienced a most touching moment with my daughter.

I heard her little voice before I saw her;

when I walked into the hall I found her at our gallery wall, reading from our many favorite quotes.

She was reading T.S. Eliot–

The quote I used for my first post on MommyEverAfter.com, when I moved over from the old site.

My new beginning.

You can see a clip of the cutest ever video here.

And, my wise, old soul in the body of a sweet, little girl has perfect timing.

We are going through some big changes over here.

I am going to save those stories, for now…

except for one:

We may be selling our house.

And by that I mean that there is a “For Sale” sign on the front lawn and it went up on the market a week ago.

We found a new house, one with which I connected so profoundly–

a house on the street where my beloved Nanny lived and where she raised my dad and her whole, big family of kids.

If you are new here, I can sum it up for you very easily (though if you type “feather” into the search bar, you will be in for many a good story!):

When I was 13, my Nanny was sick and dying. She and I were incredibly close and I was so scared to lose her.

One day, towards the end, I curled up to her and said, “I am going to miss you so much. What will I do without you?”

“Well, Rebecca,” I can still hear her voice so perfectly in my head. “I am going to come back as a bird. So when you need me, look for feathers.”

And so feathers have become my strength symbol.

I will tell you that in the past week I have seen an extraordinary amount of feathers, and in odd, unexpected places: In my shirt, in the blinds in my son’s room, all over the floor, behind the honey jar, on the seat of my car…

Feathers, feathers, everywhere.

But, in order to have my new beginning, I will also have an ending.

The end of my time here at 511.

It has been an emotional time, and this morning, as my daughter read the quote off of our wall (by the way, how amazing is it when you see your child really reading, knowing that an entire new universe has opened to them?!), my heart grew so big.

And for now, here’s to the next chapter, wherever it may take us.

And now, my daughter can help us to read the book.
