On Gratitude and Giving

As a new mother, there are so many things that I am grateful for on a day to day,
minute to minute,
moment by moment basis.
I am grateful for my baby’s smiles.
I am grateful when she says “mama” and looks at me with such love.
I am grateful that she is finally starting to grow some hair.
I am grateful for the big things,
like the milestones,
and I am grateful for the small things,
like an extra 20 minutes of sleep;
But, what I don’t often take the time to be grateful for
is that, no matter what, my daughter has no idea of what it is like to go to bed hungry.
Devastatingly, not every mother can say the same for her children.
Food insecurity is a serious problem that cripples countless American families; many parents are simply unable to provide their children with the adequate nutrition needed to grow and thrive.
Fortunately, there is one great cause that aims to do something about this heartbreaking hunger epidemic.
Gerber is partnering with Yum-o!, Rachael Ray’s non-profit organization, in order to combine their powerful forces in the quest to end childhood hunger.
And you can help.
For every “Like” Gerber has on its Facebook page by January 15, 2011 at www.facebook.com/gerber,
they will donate $1, up to $500,000, to Yum-o! Through Yum-o!’s nonprofit partners these dollars will
work to provide families with access to nutritious food in the fight against hunger.
Did you catch that?
You can help.

I am grateful that my daughter does not know what it feels like to be hungry.
I am grateful that I can help other children to feel the same.
I am grateful that I have way in which to share this beautiful message of friendship, family and food with you.
And now, I am grateful that it is nap time.
See you on Facebook!
