So it’s 5:30 in the morning,

and the baby woke up crying.
And really, I can’t complain, because the night before he slept 13 hours and woke up cooing, playing in his crib.
But his screams woke my daughter, which meant I had to go into her bed with her.
I had been hoping to soothe her back to sleep, as it is a good hour before her normal wake-up time, but she wanted to chat.
“Please don’t go back to sleep, mom,” she said.
And though I would have liked that extra hour of sleep for both of our sakes, her being awake afforded me with the dialogue that follows…
Or, perhaps I should be more accurate and call it what it was. A monologue:
“Mom, WHAT is going on? The baby was CRYING and I was totally FREAKING OUT.
Mom? Don’t go back to sleep. Mom? Let me see your eyes?
Can we talk about my birthday, mom? Mom?
Mom, I love you and I can’t stop loving you.
Mom? Did you lay out my Princess Jasmine costume for today?
Can we watch the sun come up from outside my window?
Can you get me my glasses?
Don’t go back to sleep, mom. Mom?
Can we talk, mom? Mom?”
And finally, there was a lull in her speech so that I was able to reply.
“It is very early. I am going to get the computer.”
“Ok, mom. Can you get me the iPad? I want to play Princess Palace Pets. Mom?”
Scene.
